When you use low power mode, the battery percentage will always appear in the status bar. The battery icon flashes like it's charging for a few seconds, stops, then runs off battery. This happened to me when i had tried to charge my old iphone after.

As you said its showing battery symbol that means your phone is good, just check and replace the battery. Try normal shut down if doesn t work press power+menu. The top right battery icon will give you a quick picture of your battery life.
